A little about Unto Us

Unto Us are an original rock band based in the South West of England and South Wales. The band writes and performs its own material, which falls – more-or-less – into the genre of progressive rock, though really doesn’t draw particularly from any of the prog ‘giants’. In fact, the sound owes more to the metal, jazz, folk and classical influences of the band’s members than to any particular band.

This is music for its own sake: music with no predetermined direction or agenda. Music that is made for the sheer joy of making music.

Formed in mid 2010 by vocalist Huw Lloyd-Jones (a founding member of neo-prog band Also Eden) and bassist Leopold Blue-Sky (ex of Romo legends Viva), Unto Us have not hurried their development. The steps to becoming a fully-fledged band have been tentative and, at times, painfully slow but the plan was always to ensure that Unto Us was fun and never a chore, in an effort to avoid the stresses that ruin bands for so many musicians.

With Huw and Leo joined by Dave Roelofs (ex Also Eden) on drums, Alex White on keyboards and Tom Ennis on guitar, the band’s debut album, “the human landscape” was written and recorded over two years, before being released in September 2014. Though to date the band has been a recording project, they have squeezed in a couple of live shows to keep their name ‘out there’, most noticeably playing the Summer’s End Festival in 2013 (“Unto Us: Summer’s End 2013 belongs to you” - Prog Magazine). This is set to change as the band focus more on live performances for the coming year.

Due to work and personal commitments, Dave left the band in August 2014. The band were determined to find a drummer as skilled as Dave and, in late August, were delighted to welcome the prodigious talent of Rohan Jordan-Shah to the drum stool.

With the album out and Rohan rehearsed, the band are looking forward to a busy 2015.
